The Russian Week of High Technologies 2023 (RWHT) has become an important event for the industry community, for professional dialogue between IT industry specialists, heads of universities and research organisations.

The centrepiece of the Russian Week of High Technologies is the 35th anniversary edition of the Sviaz 2023 international exhibition as well as the Display of Navigation Systems, Technologies and Services Navitech 2023.

New products and innovative technological solutions were demonstrated by the companies from 6 federal districts and 29 regions of Russia.

Companies from the Irkutsk, Kaluga, Kostroma, Tomsk and Ulyanovsk Oblasts and the Republic of Karelia took part in the exhibition with the support of their regional Support Centres for Entrepreneurs and Export Support Centres.

A special place at the exhibition was occupied by group stands, whose participants showed the best solutions and advanced Russian technologies. Among them are Roselektronika Holding and Russian Unified Communications.

While organising and running the Sviaz 2023 exhibition, the Artificial Intelligence Technology Development Department of the Ministry of Defence of Russia conducted an expert examination of innovative projects for the application of artificial intelligence technologies in them with further inclusion in the register of scientific and technological reserve recommended for use in implementing projects in the interests of national defence and national security. More than 50 expert examinations were conducted, and the decision was made to include Omega OOO in the register of scientific and technological achievements. Several other participants received diplomas for active participation in the expert examination.

The special Centre of Education and Science introduced the educational programmes and technological achievements of universities.

An important event at the Sviaz 2023 exhibition was the conclusion of an agreement between the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, RSSU – the Russian State Social University and MIREA – Russian Technological University. From the side of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, Deputy Minister Vasily Shpak signed the agreement. From the side of RSSU, the signatory was Andrey Khazin, Acting Rector of the university and a Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. The agreement provides for cooperation in the field of industry, implementation of the results of intellectual activity, and development of the training system for the industry.

Unique navigation developments and new generation devices were demonstrated by the companies at the Navitech 2023 Display of Navigation Systems, Technologies and Services. Equipment and special software, telematics platforms, mapping applications were presented by developers, leading integrators and major end-users, among them Allynav Technology Co., Next Mobile, Softlogic, Valamis, ILTUS, Planar, Innovative Company Rumb, UGT Holding, etc.

For many participants, Sviaz 2023 has become a traditional venue for meeting with key partners, a platform for getting feedback from existing clients and a tool for attracting new target audiences. 

Conference programme 

The key topics for discussion were ensuring digital sovereignty, measures of state support, development and implementation of domestic technologies at enterprises and companies of the industry, export opportunities of Russian equipment.

An important event of the first day of the RWHT was plenary session on Information Technology: A Course Towards National Priorities of the Sviaz 2023 Forum organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and RBC and supported by the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education.

In today’s world, the communications industry is one of the foundations for the development of any country and Russia in particular. In the current situation, the communications industry is facing major challenges. In March of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian Government to work out a development strategy for the communications industry until 2035. The key objective is to achieve technological sovereignty, which the country’s leadership constantly talks about and does a lot for. What do we have today? What new measures to support the industry are offered by the relevant agencies? How do the regions train young professionals? How is business transforming and developing under the current conditions? These and other topics are at the focus of the discussion.

The session participants also discussed other issues connected with definition of key national priorities in the sphere of information technologies, touching upon digital transformation of the industry, implementation of neurotechnologies, training of skilled personnel, development of optimal mechanisms of state support of IT and telecom companies.

The Autonet 2023 International Forum of Innovative Transport Technologies ran within the Russian Week of High Technologies. The forum was organised by the NTI Autonet Infrastructure Centre and the GLONASS/GNSS Forum. This year’s Autonet forum brought together about 300 people.

Vasily Shpak, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, welcomed the forum participants at the plenary session. He spoke about the changed situation on the Russian market due to the sanctions imposed on our country by leading Western countries and about the process of replacing imported car manufacturers with domestic ones.

Oleg Stupnikov, Deputy Head of the Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor), Alexey Podshchekoldin, President of Russian Automobile Dealers Association (ROAD), Alexander Gurko, Head of the NTI Autonet working group, Alexander Evsin, Head of the Situation Centre of the Traffic Organisation Centre SPI of Moscow, spoke at the forum. 

The Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, the Expert Council on Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education and EXPOCENTRE AO held the strategic session on Digital Transformation of the Russian Economy: Priorities, Human Resources, Laws.

The session was moderated by Vladimir Kononov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, Chairman of the NTI Expo Organising Committee.

Sergey Selivanov, First Deputy Director General of EXPOCENTRE, noted that the Sviaz exhibition focuses on educational programmes and university developments, and digital transformation requires attracting, training and supporting new staff.

Ekaterina Chaban, Acting Director of the Department for State Science and Technology Policy, spoke about science management services including formation of the Science and Innovation core domain, the programme of digital university chairs in Russia. The Sviaz 2023  exhibition featured the sessions of the Russian Software Forum: Effective Solutions for the Digital Economy. The plenary session dedicated to IT and formation of Russia’s technological sovereignty in this area was organised by the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media and the Russian Ministry of Defence, the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, and EXPOCENTRE AO.

The plenary session was moderated by Vladimir Kononov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education.

Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of Russia Maxim Parshin 

The Russian IT industry feels much more confident than many other industries. Russia is one of only three countries where solutions are available for virtually the entire range of software products in all classes of software. And these solutions have emerged in open and fair competition with global players in the domestic market.

Ilya Massukh, Director of the Centre of Competences for ICT Import Substitution, made a presentation on advanced engineering schools in Russia. Major General Alexander Osadchuk, Head of the Main Directorate for Innovative Development of the Russian Ministry of Defence, focused on dual-use technologies.

The participants in the plenary session on Information Technology and Building Technological Sovereignty touched upon other essential aspects of solving this important task in their speeches, continuing the discussion already in the next thematic session on Russian Platform Solutions. The Forum also featured the thematic session on Dual-use Technologies and Russia’s Technological Sovereignty.

For the sixth time, the Sviaz exhibition featured  the IoT&IIoT Day 2023, a marathon organised by EXPOCENTRE AO, the Internet of Things Association, Data Economy ANO. The main topics of the event were IoT platforms for industry, IoT standards, and the use of IoT technologies in a wide range of industries. Watch the broadcast

The meeting of the Club of IT & Digital Directors held at Sviaz 2023 was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and the Club. The speakers shared the values of the digital community, talked about the community’s digital transformation strategy and its upcoming events, and about managing the anti-crisis and counter-sanctions programme of IT projects. Members of the Club presented interesting papers and held a round table discussion on Project Management: Agile VS Water-Fall. Hybrids. The conference programme was followed by a technological tour of the stands of the Sviaz 2023 exhibition. Watch the broadcast 

A significant RWHT event was the 16th International Navigation Forum and the 3rd Sphere Congress organised by GLONASS/GNSS Forum in partnership with EXPOCENTRE.

The Congress was opened by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia – Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Denis Manturov

Sphere is a platform where key space technology trends and the search for breakthrough ideas are discussed. The industry today is the infrastructural source of digitalisation of the economy. To achieve technological sovereignty, we need to provide the country with all modern services. I mean communications, navigation, broadcasting, broadband Internet access, remote sensing. For this purpose, we need to develop our network of satellites.

The congress participants discussed the implementation of the Sphere federal project, the integrated development of space information technologies, the use of telecommunications, navigation and geoinformation technologies, as well as demonstrated innovations in the Russian rocket and space industry.

The editors of the Foton-Express Scientific and Technical Journal and EXPOCENTRE AO organised the conference on Fibre Optics as the Backbone of Russia’s Digitalisation. Made in Russia, Working for Russia. What’s up, Russia? The speakers talked about current problems in the development of domestic fibre optics, gave a brief overview of the development of fibre optic information transmission systems since the emergence of this technology and highlighted some current trends in fibre optics.

Alexey Zavadsky, Deputy Director General of SOYUZEXPERTIZA of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, gave specific examples and outlined important features of foreign trade activities with companies from Asian countries.

The conference participants also touched on a number of other important issues in the development of domestic fibre optics production, given its great importance for solving large-scale tasks of digitalisation of the national economy, social sphere, science and education in Russia. 

For the first time at the Sviaz exhibition the Forum on Current Experience of Import Substitution. Presentation of the Best Solutions hosted the Competition of Industry Projects in Telecom, which summarised the results of the transition to Russian technology over the past two years and identified the best practices for import substitution. The competition was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO, curators of the competition are Russian manufacturer of telecom systems Agat Russian Technologies and distributor of high tech equipment Netwell.

The competition has brought together and identified the best Russian practices in upgrading or modernising communication facilities in government and enterprises in various sectors of the economy.

The winners presented their projects at the Sviaz 2023 exhibition.
