On 10-13 May 2016 Expocentre Fairgrounds, Moscow, Russia, hosted the 28th edition of the Sviaz International Exhibition for Information and Communications Technology.

Sviaz 2016 has kept its relevance for the industry since 1975 when it was first launched by Expocentre. The authorities, Russian and international professional associations, and industry professionals are interested in the show.

Sviaz 2016 was supported by the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Federal Communications Agency (Rossvyaz), and the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC). The auspices were provided by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. Sviaz is acknowledged across the globe which is confirmed by labels of UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and RUEF, the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs. 

Welcome addresses were sent by Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Sviaz Organizing Committee Sergey Zheleznyak, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov, and President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin.  

This year Sviaz was a central event of a series of large high-tech trade shows and congresses.

Sviaz 2016 was co-located with the 8th edition of the Navitech International Exhibition for Navigation Systems, Technologies and Services; the 10th edition of the International Navigation Forum; and the 22nd edition of the STL. Systems for Transport and Logistics International Exhibition. Together these events drew a large number of professional visitors. It increased efficiency of networking and business meetings, which in their turn increased commercial efficiency of participation. As a result 16,680 people came to event 23,100 times.

Sviaz 2016 occupied over 22,500 sq m to accommodate stands of 324 companies from 17 countries which showcased the latest products, technologies and developments for telecommunications and IT.

Foreign participants included Satel, Funktel GmbH, Telrad Networks, Keysight Technologies, Corning, IP Infusion, Riello Ups, Rohde & Schwarz, Sumitomo Electric, Intelsat, 3ÑÕ, Coats, and others.  

97 companies from China had the support from the Chinese government. They occupied over 1,400 sq m. Exhibiting companies included Fiberhome Technologies, Maipu Communication Technology, Raisecom Technology, Yangtze Optical Fibre ànd Cable Joint Stock, Beijing Dynamic Power, China International Telecommunication Construction Corporation, and others. Sviaz helped them to establish close ties with Russian companies.

“Russia is a large country. That is why such an industry as construction of telecommunication networks has very good prospects for cooperation between Russia and China,” said Head of CCPIT ECC and Director General of the Center for International Economic and Technological Cooperation (CIETC) Gong Xiaofeng.  

Russian achievements were shown by 188 Russian exhibitors. They included such companies as Nateks, Alrost Group, Incab, Informtekhnika i Svyaz, FTI-Optronic, Telta Perm Telephone Plant, Supertel, Saranskkabel-Optika, NTC Pik, Micran, Gazprom Space Systems, Ire-Polus, OFS Svyazstroy-1 FOCC, Radian, Reko-Vek, TS-SKN, Central Research Institute of Communications, and others.

Sviaz 2016 showcased all relevant developments in the information and telecommunications industry such as solutions for landline, cellular, satellite and fiber-optic communication; data networking; telecommunications, server and network equipment; cable and satellite TV broadcasting, radio broadcasting; software; information security and virtualization solutions; Internet technologies and services; e-commerce solutions; and many others.  

The new salons, Software and Data Centers, enjoyed a lot of visitors. The Skolkovo Innovation Center had a separate stand presenting both developments and ready-made products of the centre’s three clusters: space technologies and telecommunications, IT, and nuclear technologies. It generated a lot of interest.

The event featured the Expocentre for Counterfeit-Free Exhibitions online project aimed at minimizing counterfeit products showcased at exhibitions through providing consultations and clarifications regarding intellectual property, and rendering assistance in solving conflicts connected with violations of exclusive rights.   

The central event of the rich and diverse program was the Big Media Communications Forum 2016. It was organized by the Russian Association for Electronic Communications and Expocentre AO with support of the Russian Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications and other key players of the high-tech market. 

Various conferences and workshops of IT experts were devoted to the latest developments and accomplishments of leading companies and new information and telecommunications products.

The Big Media Communications Forum included RCC 2016/ Russian Cybersecurity Competition for students from all over Russia. The winner was a team of the Lomonosov Moscow State University.  

One more interesting event was a section devoted to the six year period from creation of the .ÐÔ domain. It was organized by the Coordination Centre of the National Internet Domain. The sections’s  special guest was Senior Director of the Global Stakeholder Engagement of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers Patrick Jones. He talked about the latest trends in development of IDN domains in the world.  

The International Telecommunications Academy organized the 20th edition of the ITA International Forum. This year’s edition was called “Creation of the Single Russian Telecommunications Network Powered by Next Generation Networks”.  

This year the event program included the Smart Technology conference which covered various types of communications, transport and logistics. 

Sviaz 2016 also featured the 2nd edition of the VSAT Championship which was one of the most entertaining and interesting events of the program. It is the world’s only professional event for VSAT installers.  It was organized by AltegroSky in association with Expocentre AO. The championship was supported by the Russian Federal Communications Agency (Rossvyaz) and the Global VSAT Forum (GVF). Competing teams represented Russia and other countries. 

The winner was the Telecom-Service team from Krasnoarmeisk, Moscow Oblast. Their award was a VSAT package with Internet broadband access for a year in the AltegroSky network. The second and third places were won by Sky-One Satellite (Schelkovo, Moscow Oblast) and Togu (Khabarovsk). Both teams were awarded VSAT packages.

The Russian Federal Communications Agency presented a showcase of the Popov Central Communication Museum on the history of communications. 

Sviaz 2016 showcased the latest global accomplishments in the field of telecommunications, data processing and development of information technologies.  

The next edition of the Sviaz International Exhibition will run at Expocentre Fairgrounds, Moscow, on April 25-28, 2017.
