The future of the industry is directly related to such concepts as the Internet of Things, cloud services, transition to 5G, Big Data technology, mobile finances, development of converged communication services, methods of the content monetisation, etc.

Professional audience provided an extensive feedback on the discussion of smart city technologies and new opportunities that their introduction opens up for the telecommunications business. It was noted at the session held by the Editor-in-Chief of RBC Nedvizhimost Ignat Bushukhin that Russian cities were drastically changing today. Smart technologies penetrate into the life of not only megacities, but also small urban entities. According to the moderator, the interests of immovable property and classic telecom find synergy in the city.

Representative of the Russian Ministry of Construction Elena Semenova told in detail about the Smart City interdepartmental project. She, in particular, noted that the project goal was to make our cities more comfortable and safe for residents. The project provides for a complex of activities in cities with population of over 100 thousand people in such areas as urban management, renovation of the urban environment, public safety, transport, ecology, housing and community amenities, etc. The Smart City concept focuses on technological efficiency of the urban infrastructure, improvement of the quality of urban resources management, economic efficiency including the service component of the urban environment.

At other conference sessions devoted to telecommunications start-ups and new markets, experts stated that the rapid development of information and communication technologies was fundamentally changing all industries. Digitisation of data makes processes faster, streamlined. Traditional business models are giving way to new ones.
